S. Sridhar is a professional banker with a distinguished career spanning over four decades. He was Chairman and Managing Director of National Housing Bank, India’s regulator of Housing Finance Companies and apex Financial Institution for housing and subsequently the Chairman and Managing Director of Central Bank of India.
Mr. Sridhar is widely acknowledged to be an innovative, market oriented banker and strategic thinker having provided transformational leadership to the organisations he headed. He was an early and ardent advocate of affordable housing in the country. He repositioned NHB to advance the cause of affordable housing and led initiatives for affordable housing finance He contributed significantly to the development of mortgage market infrastructure such as NHB Residex the country’s first residential property index, CERSAI electronic registry for residential mortgages, mortgage guarantee; licensing of a new genre of a housing finance companies focusing on affordable housing ; housing micro-finance, reverse mortgage for senior citizens, Rural Housing Fund etc..
Mr. Sridhar also worked as Executive Director and No 2 of Export Import Bank of India, India’s apex export financing institution . He started his career with State Bank of India, where he worked for about 12 years in various capacities..
Mr. Sridhar studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. He is a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, U.K.. He is the recipient of several professional distinctions. He is currently on the Boards of some leading Indian companies as a non-executive, independent Director / Chair.
